Warning signs it might be time to walk away from your Network Marketing Company

Are you open to a controversial discussion?

This is vital because you need to evaluate your network marketing company and consider if there are any warning signs which would cause you to pack your proverbial bags and say, “Next!”

Needless to say, it will serve you to keep an open mind.

And note that we're not taking sides or making any specific recommendations regarding one company vs. another—that’s not our intention.

We're simply giving you the tools to make the right decision for your business.

Plus, you need to realize that while virtually no one in network marketing actually likes to talk about this subject, so many networkers—leaders and newbies alike—constantly jump from company to company.

We need to talk about that, because while sometimes this behavior is a symptom of chasing after the “shiny object syndrome,” other times, leaving your company might just be a sound business decision, based on your goals.

To start, let’s look at a “typical” scenario of how someone joins their company.

We’re often first introduced to network marketing through a family member or friend

Most people, we’ve found, sign up as a distributor because they’ve gotten results with the product.

But what most people don’t understand, however, is that your initial excitement about the product(s) doesn’t cut it especially if you’re looking to build a sustainable, long-term business.

To succeed long term, you must carefully consider the…

  • Leadership team
  • How unique & consumable the products are
  • Training and the company culture
  • System (and if it is duplicatable)
  • Compensation plan

But, when we’re new, we don’t know all that, do we?

When you’re just getting started, all you know is: prospect and recruit, prospect and recruit.

But, once you get really good at prospecting and recruiting, then you’ve got to begin to ask the questions above.

So you need to really take stock and evaluate where you’re at especially if you're in for the long haul (hopefully).

So many network marketers are STUCK

and they don’t know how to overcome that. They are not even happy with their company, compensation plan or leadership anymore.

But they just stay put, because they don’t know how to get out of their situation.

They think in scarcity, instead of thinking in the abundance of creating the business of their dreams.

Obviously, we're not saying you should leave your company.

What we're saying is sometimes, as you start building or growing a team and interacting with the leadership, you learn more about the policies of the company, which includes what you’re allowed to do, and what you’re not.

Hint: you might not like some of these policies.

And sometimes people feel like they’re stuck, like they don’t have a choice in the matter.

But you do—you always have a choice !!

Ultimately, you must make BUSINESS decisions


You may love the product…but the product, in and of itself, is not a business.

In fact, a lot of people that we’ve talked to in network marketing say…

“Well *this* is wrong with my company and *that* is wrong with my company…I don’t really like the leadership…No one is really supporting me…But I love the product, so that’s why I stay.”

And we're like…

“Wait, you can always be a customer of the product and love the product without being a distributor!”

Nothing wrong with that.

So, ask yourself…

Are you going to be a consumer, or are you going to start making some REAL business decisions?

Because business decisions have to do with questions like…

  • Where can I grow the most?
  • Where can I create the biggest impact?
  • What type of culture and leadership do I need to thrive?

And you know what?

Sometimes, that hard decision might be for you to move on…

And join another company, organization, or leader, more in-line with your goals and values.

In fact, we went through this a few years ago...

So let me share a little bit of our story.

When we were first introduced to network marketing, we loved the products and we were learning a lot.

But at a certain point in our career, we realized we really wanted to understand this profession as a profession, instead of as a hobby.

Additionally, after about 6 months of getting started and achieving reasonable success, we had to relocate from the U.S. with the family and unfortunately our company had no presence in the country we were moving to. 

That triggered a chain of events where we had to evaluate other companies vs. ours and look at key aspects such as the compensation plan, growth pattern, global presence etc. We discovered that our company had a rather inflexible compensation plan whereby movement to a new rank required one to attain certain product volume (this is normal with many network marketing companies that deal on products). However, not maintaining that volume monthly, meant that one would slide back down to the previous level - this was not acceptable to us as it did not reflect reality whereby business might be slim during any given month.

Also, our company had a business presence in about 80 countries globally which might be excellent for someone else but we wanted a company which had even more spread especially in continents outside North America.

So, the policies and footprint of the company were no longer in alignment with our values and how we wanted to build and grow.

Now, keep in mind, we were already building a strong team in this company and we would have hit six figure status definitely within the next year.

But here’s the thing…

We couldn’t just sit there, struggling and feeling unfulfilled just to collect a guaranteed paycheck.

Unfortunately, most people don’t think that way and they just stay for the sake of staying.

They stay because they say to themselves…

“Oh my gosh, my sister got me into this; how can I tell her I’m unhappy and want to leave?”

But we didn’t want to get stuck in the limiting mindset of what we were losing.

So instead, we said to ourselves…

“Okay, we need to make this decision for us, nobody else but us. We know we have a team. We know we have a good downline, but we need to feel fulfilled and happy”

So we left that company.

We found somewhere else to go and we have grown ever steadily....that was about four (4) years ago.

And that’s the message we want to share with you.

If you are unhappy, why sit in misery?

Because we will tell you this:

Sometimes the grass IS greener on the other side.

About four (4) months ago, we branched out and wanted to understand more about attraction marketing, so that people would come to us through our personal brand and online presence. 

So we dove in, became students and started implementing what we were learning.

Now, Attraction marketing is working beautifully for us.

We don’t have to recruit anymore; people just come to us.

There’s no more prospecting and recruiting. It’s amazing.

The organization we decided to join is in alignment with how we want to build and the culture, compensation plan etc. are a perfect fit.

So keep in mind that..

It’s not that one company is “better” than another

No, it’s all about creating an alignment in values, culture, and passion.

Because when you’re actually in alignment with the company, it also allows you to thrive and grow bigger than you could have in an environment you’re not in alignment with.

And that’s ultimately the lesson here.

And guess what…the income we walked away from, we replaced pretty quickly and more......

Now we're thriving and growing faster than ever as professionals.

So you need to find a company that supports your vision and goals.

That will allow you to run harder and build faster than ever.

So make no mistake…

There are PRACTICAL reasons for walking away from a company you’re not happy with.

If you love the product, then continue being a customer of the product.

I don't know about you, but we're not in business for an extra hundred or two a month.

We're looking to grow an empire and then help our team grow an empire as well.

And we needed to move on to find a company that aligns with those beliefs.

You have to do what’s right for you

We're basically giving you permission to consider some ideas that are not talked about in network marketing very often and hopefully your current company is in alignment with online recruiting methods.

If not, maybe it’s time for you to consider a change; because there is simply no better strategy than to be able to build your business from behind your computer, from home, with your kids and your family.
